Virginians for Dulles records 1947-1984

This collection contains records of Virginians for Dulles (VFD), a northern Virginia-based citizens action group committed to diverting air traffic from Washington National Airport to Dulles International Airport. Most of the materials in the collection date from 1968-1984, during the active years of Virginians for Dulles and its later title, Greater Washington Citizens for Dulles (GWCD). Documents include minutes and meeting agenda; correspondence between Virginians for Dulles board members, lawyers, politicians, and airline officials; legal briefs from civil suits filed by VFD against the Federal Aviation Administration and Washington National Airport; audiotapes; and various financial and administrative documents of VFD. Also included are newsclippings, plans for Metropolitan Washington-area airport policy, reports on the environmental impact of Washington National Airport, pamphlets and memoranda from various citizens action groups concerned with aircraft noise and pollution, Federal Aviation Administration newsletters and press releases, and transcripts of testimony before the Civil Aeronautics Board and the Aviation Subcommittee of the US House Committee on Public Works and Transportation.
